Security Vulnerability Self-Test
As a result of the recent outbreak in computer viruses, and subsequent disruptions
and damages they have caused, computers attempting to connect to the campus
network will be scanned for vulnerabilities to particular viruses. Most susceptible
to these viruses are systems running Windows XP, 2000 or Windows Server 2003.
If your computer is vulnerable, you will be required to patch your system before
being
permitted
to access the campus network. Testing your system now will allow you to take
corrective action before attempting to connect to the campus network.
If your computer is vulnerable, you will be directed to the Warning:
Security Problem Detected page. There you will find instructions
for installing patches and
links to Windows resources. If your computer is not vulnerable, you will be
directed to the Clean Scan page.
Because your system is only being scanned for specific current vulnerabilities,
you should ensure
that you’ve
installed the latest antivirus software to remove old infections and to protect
your computer from future attacks. If you do not have up-to-date antivirus
software, Norton
AntiVirus
is available on the UC
Davis Internet Tools CD. The CD
is available for $4.50 at the UCD
Bookstore Computer Shop. Also, visit the MS
Windows Update page periodically to download critical security updates.
